WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO & JULIET marks DONALD M. McALPINE's, A.S.C. (Director of Photography) 45th film. He collaborated with Chris Columbus on "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Nine Months," and with Paul Mazursky on "The Tempest," "Moscow on the Hudson," "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" and "Moon Over Parador." McAlpine's other credits include "Clear and Present Danger," "Patriot Games," "The Man Without A Face," "Parenthood," "Stanley and Iris" and "My Brilliant Career." He has also teamed with Alan J. Pakula on "Orphans" and "See You In The Morning," and with John McTiernan on "Predator" and "Medicine Man."

McAlpine began his career in Australia in 1962, working on television documentaries as a cameraman. In 1966, he joined Film Australia as a cinematographer and was soon appointed chief cameraman, supervising the work of eight cinematographers.

McAlpine's first feature as director of photography was on Bruce Beresford's directorial debut, "The Adventures of Barry McKenzie." McAlpine and Beresford have since collaborated on eight features, including "Breaker Morant," "The Getting of Wisdom," "Puberty Blues" and "King David." WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO & JULIET is McAlpine's fourth film shot on location in Mexico.
