CATHERINE MARTIN (Production Designer) previously collaborated with Baz Luhrmann on several theater and video productions, as well as on his movie "Strictly Ballroom." Her work on the latter earned several accolades, including awards for Best Production Design and Best Costumes from the Australian Film Institute and BAFTA. Martin began working with Luhrmann on "Strictly Ballroom" when Luhrmann produced it as a play in 1988.

The Australian native attended the Sydney College of the Arts in 1983, where she pursued a BA in Visual Arts. She then studied pattern cutting and costume design at East Sydney Technical College, and completed her education in design at Sydney's prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts. There, she embarked on what would become a longtime association with Luhrmann. She created the sets and costumes for his interpretation of "La Boheme," for the Australian Opera, as well as his production of Benjamin Britten's opera, "A Midsummer's Night Dream," which ultimately toured to the Edinburgh Festival. Her designs for the latter earned her the Sydney Theatre Critics' Circle Award for Best Design and the Green Room Award for Best Design of an Opera.. Additionally, Martin co-designed the sets for Luhrmann's opera "Lake Lost," winning the Victorian Green Room Award for Open Design.

Along with Luhrmann, Martin also served as guest-editor for the signature issue of Australian Vogue, designed the video clip for John Paul Young's release "Love is in the Air," the title track from the film version of "Strictly Ballroom" and worked with Luhrmann on the Labor Party's campaign for the re-election of Prime Minister Paul Keating.
